“ReCreative Spaces is Making EVEN MORE Space for Art in DC” by Emily Arden Eakland

Local arts incubator, ReCreative Spaces, will be activating an otherwise vacant property at 1613 Rhode Island Avenue Northeast with visual, performing, and culinary arts between December 2014 and May 2015. After successfully opening their first space in the North Michigan Park neighborhood of DC just three months ago, and with less than $2,000 in initial crowdfunding support, the ReCreative Spaces duo, headed by dancer Emily Arden Eakland and photographer John Munge Kagia, have been able to turn an otherwise empty storefront into a hub of creativity. Their next space will allow them to double in size, and impact.

In partnership with The Menkiti Group, ReCreative Spaces seeks to incorporate art and creativity into the strategic development plan for neighborhoods. In order to open their next space successfully, they must meet their startup fundraising goal. At the heART of their mission is the idea that positive change occurs through art. ReCreative Spaces is asking the community to be actively involved in making this vision a reality by investing in the space.

As added incentive, all donations of $5 or more to their Start Some Good Campaign will earn an invitation to the exclusive Launch pARTy on Friday, December 5, 2014. The evening includes a preview of the inaugural gallery show by DC artist Kanchan Balsé, tunes by DJ M Dot, performances by the DC Youth Slam Team, a sampling of food and beverages from local partners, and art activities.
